Because of Covid, parts of Ontario have been in lock down for a little while, and I am missing my clients, the adorable kiddos and the wee babes so much these days. Here is one of the last newborns I photographed before we went into lockdown, which has the nicest memories for me. I proudly present to you baby number 2 for this beautiful family! I photographed their first baby boy about a year and a half ago, and then was thrilled to meet their precious baby girl. I don’t know why I always get such a thrill when a family has one of each gender. As a mom of 2 boys myself, I just can’t help but feel like it’s just so unique and special!
I like to photograph newborns in the morning when everyone is freshest. Babies do at times become a bit overstimulated as the day goes on, so starting around 9:30/10:00am seems to be a sweet spot. I find it really works nicely at ensuring a great session, and I’m able to create all the photos I need to deliver a nice well-rounded gallery.
Little princess missed the party though… she slept all the way through her session, not even making a peep or opening her eyes once. It’s tiring work doing all that growing when you’re so small! She certainly felt relaxed and at home at the studio. I began the session with her photos alone, making sure to create a nice mix of both posed photos as well as with some props for extra variety. We chose some lovely light pinks shades, a nice clean white and mixed in some earth tones for her session. After her solo photos were complete, I moved on to sibling photos and ended with full family and parent shots. It always gives such a nice polished feel to a completed gallery and tells such a lovely story.
I knew this family’s newborn package came with a collection of digital images as well as an album, so I made sure that I photographed with the design of the album in mind. As a photographer, there is nothing nicer than seeing my photos come alive out of a digital state. Printing photos, designing albums, framed prints or canvases are the absolute best way of preserving your memories and removing the possibility of image loss due to failed technology.
This baby girl is now a few months old, but I’m already super excited to see her again for her Sitter session. It’s such an awesome milestone to capture, and I can’t wait to see who she has grown into!
