It’s been a hot Summer here in Kitchener/Waterloo. The heat and humidity has been incredible! After 4 years in my studio suffering the heat up here on the 3rd floor without AC, I couldn’t handle it anymore and finally got an AC installed and it’s been heaven. lol I’m pretty sure my clients appreciate it as much as I do! One thing I know for sure, is that it makes setting up elaborate set designs so much more pleasant. On this particular day I needed it!
When Mum reached out and booked her daughters first birthday Cake Smash session, we were originally going with pink and gold, we later decided upon purple and silver – WHICH I LOVE and wish I could shoot way more of. The past few years, pink and gold has really been trendy for little girls. I mean, it looks absolutely fantastic and love it too, so I’m not complaining at all, but as soon as Mum said “We love purple at our house”, I just knew how I was going to put this one together!
After you’ve shot a couple hundred cake smash sessions, setting up is pretty seamless…. but every once in a while, even with the best laid plans something about the set gives me a struggle and on this hot day, if I didn’t have the AC, I would have died sweating and battling the backdrop and pretty balloon garland I made. Anyhoo, it all came together with plenty of time to spare!
Andi and Mum came in and took a peek at the set, which turned out even better than I had envisioned! Mum loved it and that always makes me so happy. Because this was a custom set which I hadn’t done before, I couldn’t really provide reference photos of how it would look, so it always pleases me when clients hand over full control, and trust what I put together especially for their little one and end up loving it as much as I do!
As we got started, I think Andi might have been a bit overwhelmed so we started a video call with Dad, Gramma and Grampa, and big sister! Andi loved it so much and the smiles were basically non-stop from that moment on! I found out that one of Andi’s favourite songs is by Luke Bryant – “Shake it for me”. You should have seen her when Dad started singing that to her over video call! She even started to dance a little which was so heckin’ cute.
She loved her cake, which was handmade by Mum, and even when it was bath time she couldn’t resist sneaking a few more bites. This little lady knows how to pamper herself!! Snacks in the bath! Umm, yes please!
Her gallery turned out to be massive. I literally couldn’t narrow down the selections because of all the cute, fun expressions Andi gave me during her shoot, and I know that these are going to be priceless memories for her to look back on one day and maybe even share with her little ones. Thanks, Andi for such a special session! You are an amazing and beautiful little lady!
If you have a little one who will soon be celebrating their big 1st birthday milestone, reach out today. I know we will make the most amazing memories togehter.
