Happy New Year my friends! I wish you many blessings of health and happiness. For many it held ups and downs, and certainly at times I found myself wide eyed wondering ‘what next’?! But now that we have officially started a new calendar, I’ve reflected and come to the conclusion that 2021 was actually a year that I’m grateful for. I reached some new milestones professionally, worked hard, was blessed to be apart of some very special memories and have the opportunity to spend time with some really incredible people. I think that’s what I feel most fortunate for – special moments with beautiful souls. Hailing originally from Saskatchewan, I’ve always said that prairie folks are kind and special in a way that’s different than any other province in Canada. Now that I’m getting closer to 20 years here in Kitchener Waterloo, I’ve long since come to the same conclusion about this community too.
One of my motto’s since becoming a photographer is, “I’m only as good as the people I work with”, and I gotta be honest, I am blessed with some incredible clients. I always seem to be surrounded by kindness, love, and genuine people and you can’t really put a price on that.
I mentioned reaching some new milestones professionally, and in 2021 I photographed more Newborn sessions than I have before in one year which was extremely rewarding. I’ve worked hard over the last few years continuing my newborn education, dedicating myself to create beautiful images that come from the heart and that my mentor would be proud of. Achieving that goal, and surpassing it happened and I didn’t even know it! It was only at year end looking at ‘the books’ that I realized I did what I had set out to do. I can proudly say that I am where I think the universe wants me and it’s a beautiful place to be.
My very last Newborn session of the year was with a family who are so kind, loving and genuine. They have the biggest hearts and I pretty much fell in love with them all as soon as we met. Their sweet baby girl was exactly 16 days old at the time of her session, and tiny as can be, she was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. As a Mum to boys, I am always so enthralled with the teeny, tiny daintiness of little baby girls. We made some beautiful memories for her, and her Mum and Dad, and I know that they will often look at these memories and find themselves in awe at just how small she was “back then”.
I’m very excited for the year ahead, the fresh slate, the opportunities, the growth and the adventure that might come with it all. I can’t wait to see where I will be at this time next year, but most of all, I wish you a year filled with love and joy.
